  2. MATH CASTLE FOR WINDOWS - VERSION 3.1
  3. =====================================

  5. NOTICE:  Prior versions of Math Castle required that you use a "Small  
  6. Font" driver for Windows.  That problem has been remedied in this version.  
  7. This version will support 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768 both large and
  8. small fonts.  While it may work with other screen resolutions, it has only 
  9. been tested on those resolutions listed above.
  10.  
  11. INSTALLATION problems have been reported by some users attempting 
  12. to install Version 2.0.  These problems have been corrected.  If you down-
  13. loaded Version 2.0 and encountered these problems, we regret any 
  14. inconvenience this may have caused you. We strive to make installation as 
  15. trouble-free and painless as possible.

  17. Please close all applications running under Windows before attempting to 
  18. install Math Castle.  If you are running a network, or any other software
  19. that uses the file DDEML.DLL you will get the following setup error:
  20. "Warning - Can not copy file B:\DDEML.DL_ since the destination file is
  21. already in use."  If this error occurs while attempting to install Math
  22. Castle, simply click on the OK button and continue on with installation.  
  23. This file is apparently already on your system and does not need to be re-
  24. installed..

  26. WINDOWS 95:  This version runs equally well under Windows 3.1 or 
  27. Windows 95. If you want to run Math Castle under Windows 95 and you 
  28. are using a screen resolution of 640x480, then you will need to hide the 
  29. taskbar.  Look up "Hiding the Taskbar" in Windows 95 help for instructions
  30. on how to do this.  If you are running with a resolution higher than 
  31. 640x480 then Math Castle will run fine without hiding the taskbar.

  33. THE MATH CASTLE ADMINISTRATOR:  This version of Math Castle includes "The
  34. Math Castle Administrator".  Use the Math Castle Administrator to 
  35. configure and setup Math Castle.  It can be used to prevent students from 
  36. deleting their own records or other students records from the player 
  37. database, and prevent the entry of frivolous names or more than one name 
  38. per player.  You can prevent a student from playing games using another
  39. student's name, (and thereby putting scores in another player's file), by
  40. requiring password identification before a player can gain access to Math
  41. Castle.

  43. You can make Math Castle so that a password must be input in order to 
  44. gain access to the Math Castle Administrator program.  On multiuser 
  45. systems, you should initially set this password before one of your 
  46. students does!

  50. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  53. Math Castle comes in a self-extracting archive file WINCASTL.EXE.  When you
  54. run WINCASTL.EXE it will expand into three files:  DISK_1.EXE, DISK_2.EXE
  55. and README.TXT, (this file).  DISK_1.EXE and DISK_2.EXE are also
  56. self-extracting archive files and by placing the contents of each of these
  57. files on two 5.25" 1.2mb floppies or on two 3.5" 1.44mb floppies, you can
  58. create installable diskettes that can be used to install Math Castle on
  59. your system.  These diskettes can also be used to share Math Castle with
  60. others.

  62. To create installable diskettes, format two 5.25" 1.2mb or two 3.5" 1.44mb
  63. diskettes.  Label them Math Castle #1, and Math Castle #2.  Then place
  64. DISK_1.EXE in a temporary directory by itself and run it to extract the
  65. files from it.  Copy all of these files, (not including DISK_1.EXE), to the
  66. Math Castle #1 diskette.  Repeat this process with DISK_2.EXE using the
  67. Math Castle #2 diskette.  You can now install Math Castle from these
  68. diskettes.

  70. Please feel free to share this unregistered version of Math Castle with
  71. others.  If you want to upload this program to other Bulletin Boards or to
  72. other users, please use the original WINCASTL.EXE file.

  74. If you want to skip the step of making installable diskettes, then move
  75. DISK_1.EXE and DISK_2.EXE into a temporary directory and then run each of
  76. them to extract the Math Castle files.  You are now ready to run the setup
  77. program.

  79. Once you have completed installation, you can delete the Math Castle files
  80. used during installation from your temporary directory(s).

  84. To Run the Math Castle Setup Program:

  87. 1. Insert your Math Castle diskette #1 into drive A or drive B.  (Floppy
  88.    drive installation only).
  89.  
  90. 2. Start Windows (if presently not running under windows).
  91.  
  92. 3. From the Program Manager select "File" from the Menu Bar, and then
  93.    choose "Run".
  94.  
  95. 4. If you are installing from drive A then type: "A:SETUP".  If you are
  96.    installing from drive B then type: "B:SETUP".  If you are installing
  97.    from a directory on your hard drive then type: "C:\TEMP\SETUP" where
  98.    "C:\TEMP" = the drive and path containing the Math Castle installation
  99.    files.

  101. 5. Press [Enter] or click on [OK].

  103. 6. Setup will automatically complete installation for you.

  110. To run Math Castle on a network, you must install a network version on 
  111. a network drive.  The network version is included with all site licenses.
